DENPASAR, NETIZENBALI.com - For those of you who want to go to Bali, don’t miss this food Bulung Sambal Plecing.

In Balinese language, Bulung means seaweed. So, Bulung Sambal Plecing is made originally from fresh seaweed with sambal plecing.

Sambal Plecing has a distinctive flavor with a mixture of cayenne pepper, tomato, shrimp paste, salt, and lime juice. This food has a spicy taste on the tongue, tasty and slightly salty but delicious on the tongue.

Foreigners may be curious about this food because Plecing in general is made from blanched water spinach leaves (Kangkung) and served cold with plecing sambal made from ground red chili pepper, shallot, garlic, bird's eye chili, candlenut, kaffir lime, shrimp paste, and salt.

Plecing Bulung is made of two types of seaweed. Those are bulung buni (green seaweed) and bulung rambut (white seaweed). They are processed differently. Bulung buni is not cooked or fresh-served and only washed with hot water.

On the other hand, bulung rambut needs to be boiled first. It is processed in order to make it easy to enjoy. Then it will be mixed with various mashed herbs such as galangal, ginger, lemongrass, chili pieces, and shrimp paste. Can you imagine the savory taste?

But, wait a minute, the presentation of Plecing Bulung is not finished yet. Additional grated coconut, squeezed lime and fried soybeans are commonly used as toppings to perfect the delicacy of this salad.

"The combination of the chewy texture of seaweed and the crispness of spicy will tempt your tongue to not stop chewing. Balinese people believe that this dish can make you forever young," said Indra Yustanti while enjoying a portion of Plecing Bulung in popular warung in Sanur, Bali recently.

Quite interesting, right? When the sun begins to rise is the perfect time to taste Plecing Bulung. Certainly, the freshness in every bite can tame your thirst. Plecing Bulung is easily found in Denpasar and Serangan Island. So, spare you time to taste it. It is so worth to try. (NB)
