DENPASAR, NETIZENBALI.COM - A group of tourists vacationing in Bali recently exhibited highly inappropriate behavior by dining at a restaurant and then refusing to pay the bill. According to local media radarbuleleng.id, the incident occurred at a restaurant in the Diamond Beach area, Desa Pejukutan, Nusa Penida, and was captured on CCTV. The restaurant owner, frustrated by the tourists’ actions, uploaded the CCTV footage online.
The unpleasant experience happened to Jero Kadek Susiani on Sunday, August 18, 2024. Susiani reported that the group initially behaved like regular customers, ordering various food and drinks. During their stay, some tourists even ordered additional drinks, bringing their total bill to IDR 1.2 million.

“However, after finishing their meals and drinks, they complained that the food and beverages were not good and refused to pay,” Susiani explained. The tourists also threatened to leave a bad review on Google, which could deter other customers from visiting the restaurant. When they continued to refuse payment, Susiani threatened to report them to the local security (pecalang) and the Nusa Penida Police.

Eventually, the group agreed to pay but still threatened to leave a negative review. “If they had complained about the food or drinks at the beginning, we would have replaced them or offered them for free. But they only complained after finishing everything. Fortunately, it was all captured on CCTV,” Susiani said, as reported by radarbuleleng.id.

Regarding the incident, Nusa Penida Police Chief Commissioner Ida Bagus Putra Sumerta stated that the matter was not reported to the police. However, he emphasized the importance of restaurant and hotel owners installing CCTV cameras in their establishments to detect and quickly address similar incidents in the future. “Although there was no formal report, we are still paying attention to ensure such incidents do not recur,” Sumerta asserted.
