DENPASAR, NETIZENBALI.com - The Million Meals March (MMM) held by Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Indonesia is back after the successful milestone in 2021 and 2022. The MMM is a charity event where the participants are challenged to run or walk through the scenic beauty of Tabanan while fundraising for a noble cause to provide vulnerable community nutritious food.

The 2023’s MMM will be held on March 5th and will have two optional tracks: 15 km for runners and those who like to run, and 5km for families, and those who enjoy a leisurely walk with a view. The race will take place from the Puri Anyar (the Palace) of Kerambitan and run through the villages, the dense jungle of Tabanan, the Yeh Ho river, the cascading rice fields, and finally to the Beraban beach as the finish point. While waiting for all marchers to arrive, BBQ, drinks, and fun music with a beautiful ocean view will be served.

Winners will be announced at the end of the event, and there will be two categories–the most fundraised, and the fastest marcher on each track. Not only that, there will be raffle prizes that marchers can win.

The purpose of the MMM addresses humanitarian and environmental issues at the same time, particularly for communities around Bali. It is in accordance with the SOS’s mission which is to help people in need from hunger risk and combat climate change.

“To give back to the land, and the people of Bali,” said Bo Holmgreen, CEO and Founder of SOS Global.

Bali–The Island of God–is still in the process of recovery after COVID-19’s pandemic. The outbreak harms diverse aspects of life, including the tourism sector which has been the primary income of the local community for decades. Many people became unemployed, in poverty risk and hungry. SOS attempts to fight for such issues across vulnerable communities in Bali.

More than that, MMM also aims to introduce many advantages for the runners who participate in this event, including seeing the magnificent view along the track and the local heritage of Puri Anyar as the starting point of the 15 km race.

“There are many benefits from this march,” as Ratna Soebrata, the General Manager of SOS Scholars of Sustenance Indonesia, explained.

“For athlete runners or those who like running, this is your time to shine! And also a perfect opportunity to learn Bali's rich tradition and culture–especially the Puri Anyar of Kerambitan or to enjoy the beautiful nature of Tabanan,” She added.

The MMM is open to everyone, both in Bali and international marchers across the globe. Aspiring participants can register online through SOS’s official website https://www.scholarsofsustenance.org/mmm2023. All the funds raised will be used to distribute food to the vulnerable societies in Bali. (NB/*)
