Balinese woman gives birth at motorcycle taxi base
SINGARAJA, NETIZENBALI.com - A woman gave birth to a healthy baby boy at a motorcycle taxi base (locally known as pangkalan ojek) in Buleleng yesterday. Netizens on social media were touched by the moment and showered the mother and child with congratulations.
It all started when 31-year-old Komang Windriani, who is from Anturan Village, experienced contractions. Believing that she was entering labor, she went to a local community health center in Singaraja for a check up.
However, the clinic staff told Komang and her husband, 34-year-old Putu Adnyana, that there were no clear signs that she was entering labor.
Soon after Komang and Putu arrived at their home, however, she experienced further contractions. This time, the pain was so unbearable that they hopped on a motorbike and headed to the Balimed Hospital in Tukadmungga Village.
On the way, Komang reportedly could not handle the pain and asked Putu to stop his vehicle at a nearby motorcycle taxi base.
“When they rested at the base, [Komang] entered labor. The locals there came to lend a hand and finally the baby boy was born. Both the mother and the child are in good health,” Tukad Mungga village official Putu Madia told a local news outlet.
Staff from a nearby community health center picked up Komang and her newborn from the base and put them in their care.
A video of the unconventional birth went viral yesterday, prompting heartwarming well-wishes from netizens. Some said the newborn would bring good fortune to the drivers who are stationed at the base. (NB/ Coconutsbali)
