JEMBRANA, NETIZENBALI.com - Bunut Bolong is a tourist destination in Jembrana, Bali, that has a historical and mystical value.

It is a large tree with a big hole under it, which is also used as a road that connects Jembrana and Buleleng districts. The tree is estimated to be more than 100 years old.

According to Nyoman Suardana, an elder of the local community, the tree was discovered in 1942 during the Japanese occupation. At that time, the tunnel inside the tree was used as a road by forced laborers because the right and left sides of the tree were actually deep ravines. Many workers died during the process of making the tunnel.

The Bunut Bolong tree was then considered sacred by the locals. They built a shrine under the tree, which was later moved and replaced by a padmasana (a Balinese Hindu temple) next to the tree.

There are also some myths and beliefs associated with the tree, such as the prohibition for newlyweds or couples to pass through the hole, as it is believed to cause infertility or separation.

The Bunut Bolong tree is a unique and fascinating attraction that reflects the culture and history of Bali. If you are interested in visiting it, you can find it in Manggisari Village, Pekutatan District, Jembrana Regency, Bali. (NB)
