Bali authorities search for foreign man seen scrounging for scraps from offerings

NetizenBali, Denpasar - A man identified as a foreigner was captured on video while scavenging scraps from offerings in Bali. The clip, which has gone viral, is prompting local authorities to launch a search for the man.
The shirtless man, who had a backpack on and was wearing a dark cap and black shorts, was filmed as he bent over to find food items from the scattered offerings, some of which he proceeded to throw into a plastic bag.
It is unclear at this point when or where the video was taken, though the clip started making its rounds on Facebook and Instagram only this week. Badung regency’s head of Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), I Gusti Agung Ketut Suryanegara, said officers are now trying to find out more about the person.
Suryanegara said the man might be the same person who was seen begging around the Pecatu area not too long ago, who was sent away by local residents at the time before authorities could get involved.
The foreigner might have violated a 2016 regulation on public order issued by Badung regent, Suryanegara said, which prohibits loitering and busking, among other things.
“If they are a local resident then we will return them to their place of origin, but if it’s a foreigner we will coordinate with immigration,” the official said. (Coconuts.co)
