International Yoga Day Draws More than 3,000 People

Denpasar, Baliterkini.com - The Consulate-General of India welcomed more than 3,000 enthusiastic participants a celebration of International Yoga Day held at the Puputan Field in Niti Mandala Margarana in downtown Denpasar on Sunday morning, June 19, 2016.

As reported by Metrobali.com, participants began to gather at 5:30 am coming from every walk of the Island’s diversified community. The second time that the International Yoga Day has been celebrated in Bali, members of the diplomatic community attended the event at which Bali’s deputy-governor Ketut Sudikerta presided.

Recognized by the United Nations, 175 countries have embraced a resolution adopted by the General Assembly on December 11, 2014 supporting International Yoga Day that set aside June 21st each year as a date to celebrate the many benefits to be derived by yoga participation. To facilitate maximum participation in Bali, International Yoga Day was moved to a Sunday, two days before the official date established by the United Nations.

Opening remarks delivered on behalf of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the worldwide support of International Yoga Day is a manifestation of “Vasudeva Kutumbakam” or “the world as a single family.” He also emphasized the importance of Yoga as a means of fighting chronic illness and its practice and a means of creating spiritual energy.

The morning in Renon opened with a session of prayer and meditation, followed by a 45-minute session of the Common Yoga Protocol – the basic Yoga movements attainable by those involved in an early practice. [BTcom / balidiscovery.com]
