JEMBRANA, NETIZENBALI.COM – Fifteen of the best ogoh-ogoh statues from across Jembrana regency paraded along Jl. Sudirman on Thursday, marking the opening of the Masikian Festival Jembrana 2026 ahead of the upcoming Nyepi Day.

The giant effigies, created by village youth groups, featured striking depictions of bhuta kala. Some were equipped with mechanical elements, allowing parts of the statues to move and drawing attention from crowds lining the street.

After the parade, all ogoh-ogoh will be displayed at the Bung Karno Cultural Hall complex, known as the Twin Tower in Negara town, as part of the festival exhibition.

Chairman of Pasikian Yowana of the Jembrana chapter of the Majelis Desa Adat (MDA), I Putu Feri Priyandana, said the festival provides a platform for sekaa teruna teruni (village youth organizations) to showcase their creativity.

“All ogoh-ogoh participating in the parade will be moved directly to the tower complex. The festival will also feature exhibitions, a sketch competition and a tapel ogoh-ogoh contest,” Feri said, as quoted by detik.com.

Under this year’s judging system, entries are selected purely based on scores rather than fixed quotas from each subdistrict. Of the 15 ogoh-ogoh that qualified for the regency-level competition, five came from Negara, five from Jembrana, four from Mendoyo and one from Pekutatan. Melaya was the only subdistrict that failed to send a representative to the regency-level contest this year. (NB/ wan)
